90s Was the Best Era for Growing Up

Post By : Sania Zulfiqar.

Childhood was filled with the days of unbounded freedom and fun. They were the days marked by innocence, playing outside for hours, rolling around in the grass, giggling endlessly, without a worry in the world. New friends were made with each passing day.

I remember I used to wait anxiously for my favorite cartoons to come on air.Aladdin,Johny Quest, Captain Planet were very popular among children at that time.Ainak wala jin on ptv was a very successful tv show. People still miss it like anything. It was the best entertaining show ever in Pakistan for children.

Baraf pani ,kho kho, pakram pakrai, chuppan chuppai were the only games children used to play and unlike today where children spend hours playing video games at home and hardly go out for recreation.

90s was the best era for music industry as well. Bands like Junoon,Vital Sings,Strings,

N sync , Back street boys ,Spice girls and singers like Madonna, Michael Jackson, Britney spears, Nusrat fateh ali khan were huge. People were crazy after their music. With every passing day music industry was growing and it was taking over the world, bringing people closer through music. Now thanks to Apple, everyone and their grandmother now owns some version of the iPod. Back during my childhood days, Walkmans were the new thing, the day I finally got my yellow Walkman and popped in junnon’s saiyyo ni was one of the most memorable days of my life.

With mP3s and iPods in the picture, children now are losing sight of the value of good music. No one listens to albums anymore, but instead, puts on the shuffle option on their iPod to shift through whatever songs are in their music library. They are being exposed to the pop hits of Justin Bieber and every other band that sounds just like him, rather than falling in love with bands that redefine music like Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen or Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Advancing technology is benefiting our youths in terms of educational value, in some ways. Back in the old days libraries were the only source for guidance in education.

While technology has a hand in introducing these kids to advancing technology that impairs their social growth, it could be the new era that’s becoming increasingly racy and explicit that is robbing the new Generation of an innocent childhood and the chance to think for themselves and determine what is of value.
